Hi I’m Patrick, a Senior UX/UI Designer in Toronto with 10 years of experience turning complex problems into intuitive digital products.

I specialize in designing research platforms and data tools that make a real impact. Especially in healthcare, where accessibility and clarity are essential.

My journey into UX started the day my mom picked up her first iPad. Watching her, someone who grew up in rural Portugal navigate video calls and online banking with ease was a turning point. The simplicity and clarity of good design made technology feel approachable. That moment has shaped how I approach my work ever since: with empathy, simplicity, and a deep respect for the user.

Today, I’m the lead UX/UI designer at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), where I work on large-scale genomic data platforms used by researchers across the globe to fight cancer and respond to pandemics. I collaborate closely with scientists, analysts, and developers to translate complex workflows into intuitive, research-ready tools. I lead design strategy, create UI kits, test features for usability, and advocate for the user in every sprint.

In past roles, I’ve redesigned major lifestyle sites at Corus Entertainment (like Food Network Canada and HGTV), and led the end-to-end design of mobile and web apps for SPC. Across every role, my approach has stayed the same: understand the user, reduce friction, and design with care.
